Flask refuses register_blueprint once the app has handled its first
request, so on any running panel — where login and dashboard requests
long precede the first extension install — the hot-load in
_register_plugin_blueprint always raised, the installer only logged a
'will load on restart' warning, and the extension's routes stayed
missing. Its pages rendered (frontend is static) while every API call
failed: GETs were swallowed by the tabs' console.error handlers, and the
first POST fell through to the static-file route, surfacing as the 405
reported for the Malware Scanner custom-path scan.
_register_blueprint_live waives Flask's setup guard for the duration of
the registration call. That is safe in this deployment shape: the panel
runs a single gunicorn worker with threads, so the process installing
the plugin is the process serving its routes, and werkzeug rebuilds its
URL matcher lazily on the next bind while in-flight requests keep the
matcher they already bound.
Extensions can now contribute walkthroughs via contributions.walkthroughs
in plugin.json. The backend validates definitions against a shared
contract (route, signal, manual, and check completion types), transports
them through the dynamic contribution envelope, and persists custom
walkthroughs from the Studio. Includes the JSON Schema, SDK version gate,
and extension scaffold support.
.gitattributes pins the whole repo to `text=auto eol=lf`, but plugin_service
wrote the tracked manifests through Python's text mode, which translates \n to
\r\n on Windows. Any install on a Windows dev box therefore rewrote
frontend/src/plugins/*/plugin.json with CRLF, and the backend suite -- which
installs builtin extensions -- left four modified manifests behind on every
run. The diff showed no content change, which made it look like unrelated
churn and made it easy to sweep the files into an unrelated commit.
This is the same failure the comment above the write already documents: the
trailing-newline half was found and fixed earlier, the line-ending half was
missed. Both halves now live in the same explanation.
_regenerate_frontend_manifest's write gets the same treatment for consistency,
though nothing covers it -- it is skipped under the testing config so it cannot
be reached from a test.

The `app` fixture called create_app('testing') for every one of 3173 tests,
registering 90+ blueprints each time. Measured on a fixed 199-test sample
(pytest --splits 16 --group 5 --durations=0):
setup 144.9s 89.5%
call 8.8s 5.4%
teardown 8.2s 5.0%
95% of the suite's time was preparing to test; 5% was testing. The app is now
built once per process and shared.
Same 794-test slice, before and after — identical results, 2.66x faster:
before 4 failed, 773 passed, 17 skipped 593.30s
after 4 failed, 773 passed, 17 skipped 223.11s
(the 4 are pre-existing locally: serverkit-wordpress isn't checked out here.)
Sharing one app surfaces three things a per-test app hid, all handled in the
fixture rather than patched test by test:
1. create_app() is not a pure constructor — it SEEDS the bundled flagship
extension rows as a boot side effect (test_cloudflare_extraction asserts
they are "seeded on boot"). The per-test drop_all wipes them, and a shared
app never re-boots, so every test after the first saw no flagship and the
extension routes answered 503. seed_flagship_extensions() is now re-run
after each create_all. The session fixture also boots twice on purpose:
once to create the schema, once to seed into a schema that exists.
2. Config mutation now leaks where it used to die with the app (e.g.
test_demo_deploys sets DEMO_DEPLOYS_ENABLED=False and never restores it),
so config is snapshotted and restored around every test.
3. Structure mutation cannot be undone at all — Flask has no
unregister_blueprint, and refuses setup methods once an app has served a
request. Those tests opt out via `pytestmark = pytest.mark.fresh_app` and
get a private app. Three groups needed it: 13 modules calling
register_blueprint/add_url_rule directly, 11 that install plugins (
plugin_service hot-loads their blueprints onto the live app), and
test_audit_log which adds routes with @app.route.
Tests using the `wp_extension` fixture are detected from the fixture graph
instead of being marked, since that fixture mounts blueprints on whatever app
it is handed — miss one marker and the failure lands in an unrelated test much
later in the run.
Plan 64 Phase 1. Phase 2 (savepoint rollback instead of create_all/drop_all)
is NOT included: it currently takes the slice from 4 failures to 100 failures
and 201 errors, and needs its own round.

`contributions.widgets` mounts a component at a host-chosen slot. That is the
wrong shape for the new dashboard, where the user decides what goes on a board
and where. So this adds `dashboard_widgets` alongside it: a registry of
placeable widget TYPES that surface in the widget library, each instance
positioned, sized and configured by the person looking at it.
The two are easy to confuse, so the docstring, the manifest spec and
EXTENSIONS.md all now say plainly which is which, and a test asserts a
dashboard widget never leaks into the fixed-slot list.
SDK_VERSION 1.0.0 -> 1.1.0 (added surface, older extensions unaffected),
bumped in lock-step across the JS export and the backend mirror.

Extensions can now contribute Settings sections: a settings.section
PluginSlot renders below the active Settings tab with the tab id as
context. _validate_manifest grew shape checks for everything the
platform consumes declaratively — module:attr refs (entry_point,
socket_entry, models, lifecycle hooks, job handlers), jobs/schedules
shapes, and per-kind required contribution keys (nav/routes/tabs/
palette/widgets/layouts) — so a malformed block fails the install with
a message naming each problem instead of being silently dropped at
runtime. Unknown contribution kinds only warn (forward compat). The
scaffolder gained --validate <path> mirroring the same rules for
authors, wired into the conversion recipe in docs/EXTENSIONS.md.
3 new lint tests incl. one asserting every shipped builtin manifest
passes; full backend suite 1227 green; lint 0 errors; build clean;
--validate smoke-tested on a good and a bad manifest.

New builtin.extension_updates ScheduledJob (daily) runs
check_for_updates() against the registry and notifies admins via the
Notifications Bus (new extensions.updates_available catalog event,
to=admins). Fingerprint marker in settings de-dups: one notification
per new release set, not one per day; the Marketplace badge stays the
live surface. Dogfoods both the Jobs and Notify extension-facing SDKs.
3 new tests (notify-once-per-release, quiet when none, schedule
seeded); jobs suite builtin count updated 9 -> 10; pipeline+jobs 51
green, notification bus 20 green.

Completes the deferred half of #30. InstalledPlugin gains config_json
(migration 045); admin-gated GET/PUT /api/v1/plugins/<id>/config
persists values; plugins read them via the new plugins_sdk.config(slug)
accessor. The Marketplace Installed tab shows a Configure button for
plugins declaring a config_schema and renders a real form
(string/number/integer/boolean/enum/secret fields, defaults, hints).
Values may hold secrets so they are excluded from to_dict() and only
served by the admin endpoint. Documented in docs/EXTENSIONS.md.
2 new tests (config round-trip + SDK accessor + secret non-leak;
non-object rejection); pipeline suite 18 green; lint 0 errors; build
clean.

A panel update deploys a fresh clone/tarball preserving only .env and
the DB, wiping app/plugins/<slug> + src/plugins/<slug> for any
URL/registry/upload-installed extension — the surviving InstalledPlugin
row then flipped to error at next boot. Two-layer fix:
- update.sh: preserve_installed_plugins carries user-installed plugin
dirs from the old tree into the new one (skipping anything the new
tree already ships and __pycache__), before the frontend build so
carried UIs recompile. Covered by harness test T18.
- boot repair pass (plugin_service.repair_missing_plugins, runs before
load_all_plugins): builtin slugs reinstall from builtin-extensions/,
url installs re-download from source_url (force + no hot-load so the
loader registers once), sourceless uploads get a clear re-upload
error. install_from_url/path grew force/hot_load plumbing.
4 new repair tests (16 total in the pipeline suite); update.sh harness
20 passed.

Extensions can now contribute a real tab to a core-owned tab group:
a new `tabs` contribution kind ({group, to, label, icon?, end?, order?},
group id == sidebar item id) is merged into the strip by TabGroupLayout
(new groupId prop; core wins `to` collisions), and route contributions
gained a `group` field so ExtensionRoutes collects them per group and
App.jsx mounts them INSIDE that group''s TabGroupLayout — the shared
PageTopbar chrome stays and the Sidebar keeps the group item lit via
contributed matchPrefixes. Wired for files/servers/monitoring.
First consumer: the FTP Server page moves to the serverkit-ftp builtin
extension (tab in the Files group; backend /api/v1/ftp stays core per
D2). Added to CONVERTED_BUILTIN_SLUGS so upgraded panels auto-install
it once; fresh installs find it in the Marketplace.
Proven by the extended contributions-envelope test (26 plugin/platform
tests green; full backend suite 1215 passed), lint 0 errors, build clean.
