Context

The forces at play: the problem, the constraints, and why a decision is needed now. State facts, not preferences.

Decision

The option chosen, in one or two sentences. Active voice.

Considered options

• Option A - one line on the trade-off.
• Option B - one line on the trade-off.
• Option C - one line on the trade-off.

Consequences

• Positive: what improves.
• Negative: what it costs, and what new work it creates.
• Neutral: what changes without clear gain or loss.

Testing strategy

How the decision is validated. For code, the tests written first.
